I was auditing a client’s profile recently and noticed they hadn’t updated their holiday hours. Their staff spent the whole week before Christmas answering the same question over the phone:
“Are you open?”
That’s hours of paid labor wasted — just because they didn’t update one simple field in Google.
Why it matters
Holiday hours save labor: Update them once in GBP, and you’ll stop fielding endless calls.
Posts feed into search (and AI): Google lets you publish updates, offers, and events right inside your profile. These posts show up in search results and even inform AI tools that “learn” about your business.
Activity is rewarded: Just like social media, Google favors businesses that keep their profile alive. A dusty profile suggests a dusty business.

Make sure your address, phone, and hours (including holidays) are correct.
Add at least one update — a short post about a current promotion, FAQ, or event.
Upload a fresh photo that represents your business today.
This is the foundation of local SEO. If customers don’t know when you’re open, nothing else you do online will matter.
